    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

anybody see anything wrong with using a 10,000 dollar ford scan tool system to watch the primary side of the ignition on the oscilloscope and hook up the secondary ignition clamps and check the voltage output and duration?

It might be over kill but hey it told me it was working fine lol!

I should of called ford tech hotline and asked them why their scan tool wont communicate with my 1985 motorcycle!
 
lol im glad im not the only one happy with either someone else saying to do it with out facts or just doing it out of curiosity

Enough is never too much but when is too much enough :p

I have to say both of you probably went off the deep end of too much.

I like my toys but I like the simpler methods first before I break out the high-tech gadgets and gizmos.
 
LOL yeah i had to do manual vehicle entry to get to the secondary spark testing. So i went with my car and had to choose model year and pcm tear tag code. I was gonna put that as built data in it but i think the previous owner removed the ecu as i can not find it anywhere!
 
It's probably only overkill if you pay $10,000 for the tester just so that you can test your bike. Otherwise your fine. :)
 
sorry i didnt record anything so i will summarize. I was having a problem with flooding otu a cyl and wanted to see if it was fuel or spark(i know some of you would say just turn the screw and see if its better) well i tried that a bunch. So i find out that the wasted spark design makes the machine go bonkers. Im sure its something to do with the differnces in the spark pattern on my escort and the spark patterns on my bike. So it would show 10K volts with 1-1.1ms duration on 1 and 2 then give it a quick rev and it would read 3 and 4 but not one and two. But i figured this would be okay because its reading the system. So i run it until it screws up(with a fan on it) and the secondary voltage on the offending cylinder goes down to like 2K volts. Okay well that doesnt really answer the age old question, which came first the fuel or the spark problem. I have already swapped coils with no change. So i back out of that function on the scan tool and go into ocilliscope and set it up to watch the ground(switching side) of the coils on the primary ignition and once i get it set up you could see the initial voltage spike of a couple volt more when it first opens then flat at a set voltage(dont remember) and the other spark circuit was mimicing this but alternated. So i could see it make one spark then the other. As you sped up the bike you could watch the voltage stay the same but the duration would get smaller a linear rate to match the rising rpms. Anywho i found out when it started screwing up that these voltages didnt change at all. so i ruled out everything before the coils.

I have put new resistor type automotive wires spliced on to my no1 and 4 coils and they have ran good i have yet to see the voltage that flows through them. Somewhere i read an article the more resistance you have the less voltage and more duration.

But through my constant struggling on this bike i think im heading in the right direction at least for this week i am!

lol well actually the box is 5,000 and the software is free and the service and updates are 5,000 dollars also

I have put new resistor type automotive wires spliced on to my no1 and 4 coils and they have ran good
If it were me I'd dump the resistor style plug wires, use a stranded core plug wire, replacing the complete wire and not connecting them with a splice.

What is the resistance per foot of the wire you are using? 3-5K per foot?
 
Anything worth doing is worth overdoing.

I'll second the motion on using sold core wires, refer to the above quote if you have any questions as to why.

yes well i have spare stock coils this was just a test. and also i think it was the pairing of cyl's that made it go bonkers
