    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am doing my carbs on my gs850 and using the carb cleaning guide but I don't see where this small screen goes .I am trying to attach a picture. 1466185788735.jpg
 
Could be a filter from needle jet valve, the main fuel in to float bowl. Other part looks like a pilot jet.
 
The brass part is the pilot jet and the black rubber part is used to hold the metal plug in place but I'm not sure that's the picture you intended since there is no metal screen shown.

If the screen is domed shaped then it goes on the bottom of the float valve seat. If it's flat then the screen is still associated to the float valve, but it's an after market float valve seat.

Please get more acquainted with the site. A simple review of the carb rebuild tutorial would answer your simple question.
If you can't even identify 2 common carb parts, how are you going to bench sync, set float heights, and even rebuild the carbs?
The carb rebuild walks you through the entire procedure.
Pictures, descriptions etc.
No shortcuts. Do a thouroughly and proper job aND the benefits will be numerous.
A GS that pulls hard and cruises smoothly as glass is amazing. One that takes forever to start or stutters under acceleration is a real let down.

TRUTH ! I know first hand when my 850 ran well it was a real wonder -- now that it stutters and runs poorly it is miserable (carbs soon to be rebuilt)
 
I just put the pilot jet in for size reference, I know what it is and I have redone these carbs before with good result.
There is no picture in the tutorial for this part so that is why I asked. I was several months ago that I took them apart and was waiting for a new carb body which I have now. This is the pic I intended and the part is not rubber but hard plastic. The center of it is very fine screen or mesh. It is flat.
I am familiar with the site and the vast knowledge base here, that is why I asked.

It's a float valve seat inlet screen from an aftermarket float valve. In many cases they just fall off. Not absolutely needed if the screen on the petcock is in good shape, but you might want to consider replacing the float valve assembly anyway. The reason you don't see it in the tutorial is because it's not a replacement part. It's considered part of the float valve assembly.
 
I cleaned the tank and installed anew petcock so probably not needed at this point. Thanks for the starlight up definitive answer.
 
Actually that makes perfect sense now because I did replace the float valve when I redid the carbs before and did not see this part so it must have been on the float valves and fell off when I disassembled this time.
One of life's little mysteries solved.

Just one more example of why aftermarket carb parts suck. The OEM screens almost never fall off.
 
They are back together. The screens clipped right on firmly so all good.Now to gang them together and install. Hopefully have it running tomorrow or the next day.
 
That black ring with a screen goes under the float seat on a particular type of aftermarket float seat which has a differently shaped round stanchion for pressing it on than does the genuine Mikuni float seat. The Mikuni float seat uses a dome shaped brown or yellowish plastic affair to filter fuel going through the seat and stays in place much better than that flat screen you have in the picture.
