A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Read the stator papers and suspicion confirmed, r/r and stator fried. Changed oil and filter before balancing the carbs and per manual added five quarts to 79 GS1000. Read that stator was bathed in oil to keep it cool. Returned bike to living room/Bikes static display room and proceeded to remove r/r and the stator. Placed pan under bike to catch the oil and removed stator cover. Much to my surprise maybe a table spoon of oil in pan. I get surprised easily these days but is there suppose to be more oil than this.

Not really. You've not pumped the oil through the system yet and at rest there is usually not much oil in the stator cover anyway. If you leaned the bike to the right at all you might not get any oil spill.

Lean it toward you however and it will be all over the floor pretty quick.

Hi,

Yep, just a little bit of oil in there if your bike is up on the center stand.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Happy joy joy when trying to get bike off center stand oil every where. Struck oil in living room, love it. Thanks TheCafeKid and BassCliff.

5 quarts is at least one too many.

How right you are. Should have edited that to four. Have been changing oil on too many vehicles as of late. Maybe why car is one quart low or is that me.

I hate you.

And me getting crap for making a mess in the garage! :D

I wished I could keep either of my bikes inside, then I could work on them all the time, but to do that I'd have to figure out a way to drive them up the stairs. So, you found the oil did you?
I bet you're quite relieved now and now you can relax some ;). Had to be a big worry on your mind I'm sure.
Surely you put a tarp on the floor , or did you just use carpet? not white I hope . Was the oil clean?

Bet you can't wait till wife gets home to clean it up for you .
She is an understanding wife, isn't she?

Aren't all wives sympathetic when you loose some much good oil dumping it on the floor?

Your an engineer and you can't get a bike up a flight of stairs. Yes I found the oil and it's clean. You know I'm relived as I expressed my concern of this in an email to you to which you didn't reply. We don't need no stinking tarps as the bike sits on a sheet of plywood. It was wife's idea to put bike in the living room for repair through the winter as we haven't a garage as you know. Yes my wife is very understanding and I am fortunate. As far as the wife cleaning up after me. Dream on as no one has ever had to, I learned quite young how to take care of self. The wife works and when she comes home the house is clean. Dishes and laundry done and most times the cooking, if I'm not fishing, maintaining vehicles or restoring something. Guilt about this hell no haven't the time and wouldn't life be a bore if everyone was the same. Oil on the carpet, hard wood floors and did you not see in picture posted the oil pan or is your eyesight failing.
Thanks for the loving and concern.
