Which pilot jets for CV carbs?

All the ones that I have dealt with from 550 to 1100 have had bleed holes, much like the BS30/96 jets in the illustrations. :-k

.

BS30/96 bleed type. I believe the stock was #45 on the 1000/1100 models.

HTH.

may i change my answer..
crap.
i thought only the bleed hole type pilots were used in the early mechanical's like the 26's and such.
crap.

Need to go up one size on the stock pilots. Stock is 45, want to go to 47.5.

Quick question mate ..... why ?

Ive never needed to change pilot jets even on heavilly tuned engines, are you sure you are not trying to cover up a fault from somewhere else ?

I kind of thought the same thing, my stage 3 kit for pods and pipe didn't change the pilot jets.

There seems to be more than one style of Mikuni pilot jets out there.

What style are needed for the stock 34 mm CV carbs on an '80 or later GS1000/GS1100/GS1150?

i just went and pulled 3 sets of carbs...
the 1150 carbs (36mm) have solid/no bleed hole pilots.
the 80-83 110016v. carbs (34mm) have solid/no bleed hole pilots.
the 80-82 75016v. carbs (32mm) have bleeder hole pilots.
i did not scotchbrite the jets to get the sizes plus it may be time for reading glasses....

this is all the information i can offer and is 100% correct as my hands are still dirty from checking the above described carbs. :)

The GS the last time it ran had fresh intake boots and o-rings, a new battery, fresh fuel, and a fresh set of green Dyna coils. Fuel flow is good with a new Pingel and valve clearances are good as well. It pulls hard and smooth through the midrange and top end. Elevation on average is 4500 feet.

Starting it up requires a bit more choke than I'd like. There's minor popping on deceleration. Also, the warm idle can go up 500 RPM over the cold idle once the motor is hot. Given that there's no intake leaks, thinking it's lean pilots.

How far out are the mixture screws turned? Most times, simply turning them out between half and a full turn will make a BIG (and cheap) difference. Depending on the bike and the modifications to the engine, somewhere between two and three full turns out from lightly seated is a good starting point.

I went up one on my pilot jet. I was popping and lean on the pilot circuit.
I also blocked off the anti-pollution ports on the GS1150 carbs on my CA carbs and had to go up one on the pilot air jet. (thanks Bruce!) CA carbs had 120s and non had 125.
Very streetable bike until the front end comes up. :D

That's VERY interesting, at least to me. The bleed type pilots were definitely for the 8-valve motors as I've been down that road more times than I like to remember. Does anyone know what the effect of not having the bleed holes in the pilot jets would make that would benefit the big bore 16v motors? I don't have any CV experience with the 16v motors as mine had a set of 33mm Smooth Bores on it when I bought it and I'm running a set of 34mm RS Flat Slides on it now.

Thanks and I hope I'm not hijacking this thread.
