As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Why Is the Battery Box Grounded/Earthed

Can anyone explain to me why the battery box is earthed?

I can understand that on my original setup the Regulator (separate unit from the Rectifier) which was mounted to the battery box required that the battery box be earthed to supply a good ground for the regulator.

But why does the battery box need to be earthed to the frame when the R/R is mounted on the air box?

Suzuki often grounded though the battery box and/or airbox bolts - which were rubber mounted with only a metal sleeve though the center providing the ground path. I'm not sure what exactly you are referring to with your reference to "original setup", but bottom line is the battery box does not have to be grounded unless you are grounding though it.

By original setup, I mean the way it came from the factory -- the Rectifier was mounted to the airbox which was earthed through the solenoid screw and the Regulator was mounted on the battery box which was earthed through the upper mounting bolt to the frame.

In addition the the charging system, also think of the starter soloenoid when concidering the grounding of the battery box.

Thanks, in my case the solenoid is mounted to a bracket on the metal airbox and I have an earth wire lug fastened under one of the solenoid screws. So the airbox is earthed well and truly and anything that is bolted/screwed to it is as well.

But I still do not know why the battery box has an earth wire to one of its mounting bolts. Just curious. Is the battery "-ive" cable supposed to attach to the battery box as well as the engine case? Just asking.
