    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

are Progressive rear shocks so expensive? Or Ohlins, for that matter? I know, technology and all that. Mine are OEM, 11,000 miles, and are duds. Are MDI shocks a gas charged unit, or any of the (expensive) others? Honestly, I'm probably going with something around $80. I told myself I can't spend anymore right now, but whit the dead rear end, it is a nessity. Input, anyone?
 
Progressive ARENT that expensive. Better yet, IKON arent that expensive, and might be a little better for around the same price. Ohlins are top of the line, the best there is. MDI, you get what you pay for. I have em on my 1100ES for the moment. They're stiff as a board with only me on em, i get used to it. But with the extra 130lbs of Rose on the back, they fell NICCCEEEE. Now, another part of what you're paying for is adjustability, rebuildability, etc. For the price of Ohlins, you get a completely rebuildable, adjustable shock. You will likely only ever buy ONE PAIR, and then have them rebuilt, and or resprung as needed. MDIs are throw away. When they're dead in a couple of years, or whatever, you toss em in the trash and buy another set for 80 bucks. They also only have a pre-load adjustment, and no dampning adjustment. They ARE dual rate springs, which is kinda nice, but again for someone your size, you are likely going feel like you are riding a buck board..
 
Progressive stuff looks like a good choice, but jeez, close to 3 Franklins? I know- I'm cheap.But I'm still under 2Gs and this is turning into a good rider. All sorts of these bikes for sale for what I have in her now, and I would end up putting the same stuff on them as well. It's good to know that the MDI will be like riding a hardtail. That I don't want. I'm really liking the feel of this bike now, but like I said the rear is so dead. Hitting a smooth manhole cover will bottom it and at least the springs ars dead too or else the back would push up harder!

I might have some DECENT stockers I could be persuaded out of...they came off my ES, so they have dampning AND preload adjustment. They werent BAD, but the Ohlins I had were better, and I like the MDIs for their extra length on my tall ass..

Ave they a clevis? (huh huh, clevis just sounds dirty!!)

That's better. On those, is the dampening single adjustment for compression/rebound? And why did you replace them? Let me guess, the could not support a giant such as yourself?

Preload adjustment and dampning adjustment, seperate adjustments...

I got rid of them because i shelled out the money for better shocks. They supported me just fine.
 
Preload is the ring under the spring, correct? Dampening adjusts the rate of shock movement, just wondered if they had separate adjusters for compression and rebound or a single circuit adjustment. What did you upgrade to?

Ohlins. Yanno man I think i just might hang on to these the more I think about it. Just for the "bone stock" thing..

Yep, you are.:D

Have you ever looked at any suspension parts for a new bike? A Penske triple clicker shock is around $1200USD, Traxxion Dynamics fork cartridges are $1000USD, etc.

PS stuff is reasonably priced for what you get. Ikon are better overall, but I think that Progressives are a better value. Ohlins are pretty much the top of the heap in twin shocks and you pay accordingly. Keep in mind that we pay more for shocks because we need 2 of everything, doubling the costs immediately. That $1200 price for the Penske is only for one spring/damper unit and would be pretty much doubled for one of our bikes.
