A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Will eBay Crank Fit My GS1100GLZ?

The engine was knocking in my 1100GLZ so I bought another bike an am using the engine from it. That leaves me with an engine that's in pretty good shape (except for the knock). I'm thinking of getting it going again, as I have time and money to work on it. There'a a welded crank for sale on eBay. Does anyone know if it will fit in a GS1100GLZ engine? Here's the eBay link:

Nope,, sorry. That crank is for a 16 valve engine, you have an 8 valve engine. They look the same but they aren't the same.

I have a knock in my gs1000 engine (100,000+ miles) at idle, but it is probably due to the cam chain having worn unevenly. It does not get louder, in fact it quiets down, as revs climb. It may be a little piston slap, but I basically don't worry about it. The crank (like yours) is built on roller bearings and thus they do not behave like plain bearings (knocking when bad). If there is a problem with your motor, it would most likely be in the piston area, such as a worn wrist pin or cracked piston skirt (or that loose cam chain).

Well, it may not be a rod knock, I don't know for sure. I can tell you this: It is a very loud knock. It is so loud that people half a block away will turn their heads to check out the noise. I don't know if it could be coming from the cam chain. Right now, I have a second engine just about ready to put in the bike. When I get the old engine out, I'll see if I can figure out what is causing the knock. It would be great if it isn't the crank, but I'm not optimistic.
