I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Will these fit '79 GS550 Carbs?

Give them a call or e-mail. I hear their pretty responsive. If you can't get a new tube, I have an old set of 79 550 carbs worthy of becoming a parts source.

If that petcock works, I want one too. Unfortunately, it says that it works with the GS550 X and Z which are codes for 1981 and 1982. The '81 and '82 had many changes from the '77 - '80 models, so it's very likely that it will not work. If it does, I seriously want one. It's only been 2 years with this pingel one, and it's already starting to leak. I would really like to not have to worry about if I turned off the gas each time too.

I believe the carb spacing is wrong for that connector tube. How many do you need? I may have one, or two. How about posting up a photo of your actual part and I'll check the spares.

As for the petcock, I don't think that model will fit. Measure the bolt spacing center to center to be sure.

Unfortunately I have no pics of the parts, and I am at work right now, but if you check the VM Carb Rebuild Guide on BikeCliff's website, the section "Fuel lines and tees" actually has pictures of all three connectors. However, the guide states that that type is no longer being made and that I should use the newer kind that use little o-rings instead of rubber ridges.

I would need 2 straight connectors and 1 tee connector. I was hoping to get everything from Z1, but it looks like I'll have to go elsewhere for the fuel connectors.

Thanks for the offer, but the VM Rebuild Guide I was reading said to discard the connectors if they're removed, as they may not seal properly again.

Do you know if your carbs use the old-style connectors with ridges, or the newer-style type with o-rings?

Tommy

Tommy,

The VM carb guide photos are from a set of VM26's. Your bike has VM22's, with closer spacing between carbs, thus the connectors may be different. If you send me a PM with the actual dimensions of the connector in question I'll check my stash.

Excellent to know. I figured there were some differences, but the principles would be the same for cleaning and reassembling. I will measure the connectors when I get home today. I know for sure that the end of each connector is about 10mm.

I will also measure the bolt hole openings for the petcock mount at the gas tank. Noob question but do I measure from the center of the holes?

Also, do teh 77-79 550s and 750s use the same petcocks?

Thanks,
Tommy

So I mesured the bolt hole spacing to the best of my abilities and it appears to be 44mm, which would make it line up with the petcocks from Z1.

Sent them an email to confirm, but haven't heard back yet.

Any concerns or comments you guys have?

C-T-C yes.

Perfect, glad I did that right, thanks.

Mike from Z1 got back to me and said that if the bolt hole spacing is the same, the petcock should fit. Just have to make sure the vacuum and fuel ports are facing the right direction.

Stock tap has both facing rearward, and based off the pictures from Z1, it looks like their taps do the same. So it looks like I'm good to go then.
