A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Will this work?

Hello,

I have an 83 750 kat in bad need of a carb rebuild. I also have an 82 with many missing cosmetics but the carbs are there.

My thought were to pull the 82 carbs and give them a thorough going over and just install them in the 83. That would allow me to continue to commute to work and keep me out of the car until I was finished the job.:D

question 1- Are they the same carbs except fot the color?

question 2- The 82 carbs (I think) are stock. The 83 has a 4 into 1 pipe on it. Should I go one size up on the main jet while rebuilding the 82 carb?

Thanks for any replies.

Let em know if more information is needed.

as long as they are the same mm diameter i would imagine they would work fine.. i'd just swap jets between carbs, then swap'em back when you are finished.

The 82 and the 83 engines are different, I would suspect that the jetting might be different. I would also suspect that the rail that holds the carbs is different, check the part numbers on the two years to see if the carb body is the same. If you have an aftermarket exhaust, you will have to jet for the exhaust.

I did some quick research after work and yes they do appear to be slightly different animals. Looks like i will be biting the bullet and cleaning the original carbs.

Thanks for the help and advice

Just put them on & see how they fit, I would guess jetting would be close
You will never know unless you try
