Hello All,
Well time to get settled in on this winters project. I decided it was time for something a little more comfortable on those long trips than this:View attachment 14761

This will be a low budget rebuild with an eye towards value using as many oem parts i have kicking around the garage.

The plan is to add the GS1150 fairing (i have the upper and lower as well as the side panels), Corbin seat, and first generation GSXR running gear. The bike is actually worse than it looks in the picture and needs a complete cosmetic redo and mechanical build for reliability.
First task is to strip the headlight and gauges and start figuring out how to attach the upper fairing.

Excuse the poor pictures, don't have lights in the garage yet and using floodlights for now!
Stripped the headlight and guages tonite to start to see how the fairing bracket might mount.

Discovered how much work this bike is going to need. The seat and gas tank were held on with zap straps, the side panels with velcro!

This bike is a 82, it is my understanding that the 83's had the mounts on the stem already there? Will have to do some research over the next few days.

Yes, 83 1100E had the mounting bosses from the factory for the ES variant fairing. Two bosses on the steering mast, the other two lower on the frame. It's been over a year since I've had my once beloved ES but IIRC they were located on the front frame down tubes.
The location required for YOUR fairing is likely different, as the 1150 had an altogether different frame, and likely a different fairing mount as well, but the task would be relatively simple provided you have access to a welder (man or machine itself). They're simply round tube stock welded to the frame and tapped for the bolts. Nothing fancy. Mayhaps someone with an ES or ED 1100 could snap some pics for you...

So had a look at my Katana upper fairing mount and the part that mounts to the headstock is the same as the GS1150

Just need to measure it up and make some bungs and that will take care of the upper mounts. Now just need to find some pictures of the lower mounts.
