Wintergreen Oil???

Don't want to pay out the nose for four ounces, don't want a 1/2 ounce bottle from the boutique section, don't care that it comes from 100% pure organic free range cold filtered extra virgin wintergreens hand pressed by pregnant nuns in Catalonia. Who's got a source for a realistic size bottle of the stuff?

Can you get something like industrial strength wintergreen oil in a quart jug for $10?

It's good to dream.

Amazon has 4 oz for $13 shipped...http://www.amazon.com/Wintergreen-L...id=1454548674&sr=8-1&keywords=wintergreen+oil

Let me go get my 16 OZ bottle i paid 8 bucks for and give you the SKU...Stand by.

Got it at Amazon. was around 8 bucks if I remember right

Thanks Chuck, HMmmmmmm..... Made in India, maybe i can pick up a gallon my next time through. or a Kilogram or a few litres or whatever they sell it in there.

Ive done maybe 4 or 5 sets of carb manifold and some airbox boots with this one bottle. Dump it back in after removing the parts and reuse many times. Wear some rubber or plastic gloves if your getting parts out with your finger..they will smell of wintergreen for a few days.

You can cut the wintergreen oil with a thinner like alcohol or xylene to bulk it up. Can't remember the exact procedure but just google something like wintergreen rubber threatment. The Honda guys have used it lots.

The mixture I used was 70% wintergreen to 30% xylene.

I've used 3 parts xylene to 1 part wintergreen with excellent results. I keep it in a wide mouth glass jar, like a salsa jar, and have re-used it many times. I can only get one air box boot in there at a time and let them soak a couple of days for the really bad ones. So far I've done 6 boots, numerous vacuum hoses and a couple of carb mount boots. Use rubber gloves and I hope you like the wintergreen smell in your garage. It will linger for a week or two after you use this stuff. You boots will swell to about 1.5 times their normal size but when the xylene evaporates they shrink back to original size. End up like new parts. My friend bought a quart of wintergreen online for about $30 but I don't know where he bought it. I think Amazon. He used about 4 oz and I used 3 oz so we have plenty left.

I need to correct this. It is 30% wintergreen oil to 70% xylene. I agee totally with jdvorchak, re-use it many times over.

I was also mistaken about the container. I use one of my wife's Mason Jars for holding it and soaking. Every time I use it I pour an ounce or two, of Xylene, into the mixture to bring the level up. Since it still smells like Wintergreen and what evaporates is the Xylene I figure I'll do this a couple more times then add an ounce of wintergreen. It's pretty black now but seems to still work.

I don't think that smell will leave my garage until spring and I can leave the doors and windows open... Smells like a spearmint chewing gum factory in there.....

Maybe I should do this outside... Is the motorcycle going to smell like that if it has eight freshly wintergreened boots? I could see with a bunch of bikes smelling like that I may have a slight problem.

Your boots will smell minty fresh for a loooong time. Not overwhelming though.

I've not noticed that the boots smell after it evaporates. The odor seems to be coming from the area where I soak the boots. It's not overpowering. But if blindfolded I know exactly where I am!

Mine have been fine a year later. Some heat gun treatment will always make them more workable even if new. Dont expect them to be new kinda soft..they probably wont. But they WILL be flexible and work well again. My experience is the harder they are going in dictates how well the oil works. if they are still a tad squishy they will be fine. If they are plastic like hard...dont bother.

I have soaked rock hard boots for 3 or 4 days and they ended up like new. I just kept pulling them out and testing. If still had hard areas back in they go. I had 3 boots on a KZ that were so hard I thought I'd break them taking them out. They soaked about a week and ended up soft and pliable almost new. Six months later, now, they are still soft. But it really doesn't matter. As long as they are soft when you put them on and the clamps tighten around them, even if they go back to hard they are still doing their job.

When you first pull them out of the solution they will be almost twice their normal size. Then overnight the Xylene evaporates and they shrink down to normal size. Don't be alarmed when you pull them and they are huge!
