Wiring a Wind Kutter Fairing?

Hey all,

I got a fairing from one of our fellow forum members, Darkspeed, but he didn't remember how to wire the thing up and I can't figure it out either. Anyone know where I can find a wiring diagram for the Wind Kutter?

Looks awesome by the way Darkspeed. Thanks a bunch.

If it is wired similar to a Vetter Windjammer, I can send you a diagram.

Does it have a 9-pin plug? What are the wire colors involved?

.

Does it look basically the Vetter. I have a Kutter that still has the wiring... I think. Post a photo of the fairing and connector... If it is the same I will trace it for you.

Ok. So here are some photos of what I've got going on. The first two are of the harness. Third and Eighth are just of the fairing for reference. Fourth is of a random black wire that isn't connected to the harness but was running out of the fairing right along side the harness and seems to be a major player in this game because it's connected to a lot of stuff inside. Maybe a universal ground? Fifth is of 2 wires that were disconnected in the fairing but look like they go together. Can anyone confirm? Sixth and Seventh are of the other end of the harness that needs to get connected to my bike's lighting system.

I posted some pictures of what I'm working with. Looks like a 9 wire system. 8 in the harness and one black wire by itself. Does it look familiar?

Does it look the same as my photos?

Wow.. This is tricky. Unfortunately the inside of mine is similar.. A rats nest with many splices under tape and exposed. But the colors are not the same. I wonder if the manufacturer adapted somebody else's harnesses to fit their fairings. Who knows. I don't have that harness connector on my bike anymore because I switched it out for my Vetter.

Mine does not have the 9th wire. I think that is a common ground they ran... Maybe your original ground was faulty.

Probably easiest for you is to get a cheap two-wire circuit probe with a glow light and just probe your bike-side harness pins.... Turn on left turn signal and probe which pin flashes... Then lights on high.. On dim, etc. ...until you have identified what is coming from the bike. This should not take more than two or three minutes. You could check continuity to ground on black, but I would guess you will likely need the 9th wire if yours is faulty. You could run a new one to the connector and get rid of it too.

If you get the wiring diagram for the bike you may just be able to identify what the bike is sending by the wire color too.

Sorry I was not more help.

AAAAGGHHH!

SCOTCHLOKS! Hiissssssssss... evil, evil. Get rid of those awful things. They're the spawn of the Prince of Darkness, who hates flowing electricity and loves corrosion, broken wires, and heartache.

It looks like the wiring has been monkeyed with extensively over the years, so a diagram isn't going to do you much good. And you really need to rip out most of that crap and rewire it correctly anyway.

But back up a minute -- this thing simply CANNOT be all that complex. A couple of turn signal/running lights, a headlight, and maybe a radio. Take a few minutes to map it out, grab a couple of trailer connectors at the auto parts store, and you're golden. Ain't hard.

All you need is four wires:
Ground
On with key - running lights, headlight, cigarette lighter, charger port, waving monkey paw sign holder, etc.
Left signal
Right signal

If you have a radio stuffed in there, you'll also need a fifth wire connected to an always on circuit -- this keeps the clock and station presets alive.

Thanks guys, I know what wire from the bike do but when I connect them to any of the wires on the fairing I get nothing all around. I got a buddy coming over tonight to try and help me out. I'll get some betting wire connectors and try to do the job as proper as I can.
