DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

What ground???????? Were should i look or were should i ground

You should have a few. At the very least the engine block to the battery negative and then there will be a couple from the harness. Depending on the types of signals you have, they should have separate grounds as well (all of mine do)

Wiring

The starter is going to the battery neg and three other wires from the harness. The blinkers or plug in to a ground

The black wire attached to the starter post should go to the solenoid. There should also be a black wire from the engine casing (depends on your bike, mine's at a screw into the sprocket cover) to your battery negative.

Please slow down and use proper grammar and spelling though as I don't understand what you are trying to say in your second sentence.

How about posting up a picture of what you are seeing.

I have a 83 GS1100E. Do I need to and a ground the the engine still and if so what do that do for a ground

I know I cannot explain it well enough to be accurate so I'll let the experts chime in here. Short answer though is yes you still need something from the engine chassis to the negative post of your battery.

As was said earlier, slow down when writing. No one can understand you. Use complete sentences.

A bit of explanation: Electricity must travel in a complete circuit. It doesn't just go out, it must come back. That is why all batteries have two terminals.

The return path for household wiring has both a wire, that leads back to the generating station, and a connection to ground. Literally, someplace your house has a copper rod pounded into the ground, with wires attached to it. It matches one at the generating station.

On your motorcycle, the steel frame is the ground. The negative terminal of your battery is attached to the frame someplace. There are other things that connect to "ground" on a motorcycle or car. Many of them have both wires that attach to the battery, and also connect to the frame.

One of the most common problems with old motor vehicles is that the connection between copper wirse and steel frame corrodes. Electricity can't get through the corrosion. It is necessary to find all of the connections to "ground" and clean them every ten years or so.

A friend of mine lived in Victorville, back when Geroge AFB was open. I visited her there once. Pretty country, if you like high desert.

Thanks for the info. I am really trying to get this bike up and running, and the wiring is giving me hell
