I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

hi i have just put back on the road a 1983 gsx 550e and it wont go faster than 80 mph why? i can get it to rev to the 10500 red line easliy ,and it will do 80 mph no more ,the speedo it acurate as i have checked it against a blackbird at that speed the bike has a un- named 4-1 for which i have jetted up by 1 size on the mains .. it is standard apart from that help please !! cheers andy

Okay, I'm confused

You can reach redline in top gear, or not?

If you're going 80 in top gear, it's redlined?

Can you redline it in any gear while you're riding?

What do the plugs look like? Post a picture

hi the bike rev counter will rev to the red line while riding but it will not go faster than 80 mph the speedo reads 10500 speed 80 mph the plugs are fine nice brown colour the bike is running 1 size up on the mains yet the dam bike wont go any faster its has a book speed of 115 mph please help as its driving me nuts cheers andy

Ditto on the clutch!

Ditto on the clutch!

Sure sounds like a slipper of a clutch!
High speed/high revs is pretty typical place to see 'em slip ona GS.

CLUTCH... either that or the torque converter is shot. :-D
Different wet clutch. C'mon Dave! Give us a break! ;-)
Don't worry, the guys just blowing smoke.

So what you're saying is going down the road at 80 MPH you tach is redlined? Either you're in third gear or you clutch is slipping BIG TIME!!!
Either your clutch cable is adjusted too tight, bad clutch springs, worn clutch fibers or glazed clutch steels or E all of the above.

It's all in the perception

Mr. gsx/gs biker,

Perhaps your tachometer or speedometer is not reading properly. The gauges do go bad sometimes. My speedo would dance around all over the place, reading 85mph with the tach at only 5000 revs (which should be 70mph). A little cleaning, a little lubrication and it worked much better.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
