A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

"I?ll be in Vancouver on Friday and will stay there for a few days"

One day too late for me to be of any help to you. I am leaving for a week on Friday.:(

It would have been nice to meet you. Good luck on your trip.

You might want to try Modern Motorcycles for any old Suzuki parts. They can be cranky and the prices are more then the states but they have a fair amount of older parts. 604-876-0182

Chris,

PM & email sent.

Go easy on that tire. It's all you got.

What is the planned route when you get into Washington?

Might be fun to post up on www.pnwriders.com
Loads of the folks on there would probably like to meet and ride with you through the North West

Have you considered a reusable silicone cam cover gasket (and breather gasket) from RealGaskets? I imagine you'll be tearing through the 4,000 mi valve adjust intervals pretty quickly and often. Several people on these forums (including myself) have had good results with them.

Like fighting spaghetti to fit, don't allow any torque on the head bolts, deform over time & start leaking - I would say they are good for 3-4 valve checks in my experience then they are junk. Given that you can get 3 from a stock (if you glue one side & grease the other) I'd say these are overpriced....

If it was silicon sandwiching a metal base plate they would be much better...

Dan :)

Oh, phooey. :p

I've had the same RealGasket for at least 50,000 to 60,000 miles. Don't over-torque it and you'll be fine. (And don't use any solvents on it.) To install, roll up the gasket in two paper shop towels, then unroll in place over the engine and tear the towels apart to remove them. Easy-peasy.

They work great on the 8 valve engines IF and ONLY IF you can resist the urge to torque 'em down too much. And no, the bolts won't back out. Really. I've never lost a one.

I'll agree that RealGaskets aren't really good on 16V engines -- thinner sealing surfaces make it harder to keep the gasket from "squirting" out, and the thickness can mess up the tach drive.

To the OP, please let me know if you ever get near Indianapolis... :D

Quick Update:

Found a tire in Williams lake, BC along with a tach drive from a GS1000 plus a cable.(my cable was broken inside the drive and wouldn't come out). everything works again now.
The shaft has stopped leaking, i guess it was too full.
My valve cover started to leak from the left side now but i'm riding it south regardless. 300k from Vancouver, BC. will be there friday morning.

I'm covered in oil but nothing too bad.
