    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Trying to finish a vavle adjustment.

Misreading the instructions :oops: ; waiting for shims; demands of life; limited time; and frustration :mad: have made it a long process.

I am having trouble with one valve (4 exhaust). It read 0.10 with a 2.55 shim present. Using a new 2.6 shim (as suggested by Steve's essential spreadsheet), I cannot get my .04 mm feeler guage to even fit between shim and cam.

Too frustrated to do a search.

Suggestions? :confused:
 
Are you sure its a 2.55? Use a set of vernier gauges on the shim to confirm its size.

Have you checked that the cam is in the correct place for the timing and checking?

Is the new shim sitting in the bucket correctly?
 
Hi,

If the measurement is correct, there's nothing wrong with 0.10 mm clearance on an exhaust valve. "A slappy valve is a happy valve." :D

I've run a couple of mine at .11 mm with no adverse affects.

The shim measured 2.56.

I rotated the enigine several times to seat the shim after insertion. And the shim bucket is able to rotate after I remove the tappet tool.

I measured the new shim at 2.61
 
The bike is fine as Basscliff says. Button it up and go ride.:)
 
It's fine at .10 but if you have the new shim in and it measures less than .04 it may be tight now. It may be at .03, the lowest in the acceptable range. Sometimes I get slightly different measurements on the same gap. Maybe it was actually .09 with the old shim and barely below .04 now. Are you sure you didn't accidentally have another gauge stuck to the .04 gauge when you checked it?

I will double check my measurements but am fairly sure they are correct.

If so it will stay at 0.10 and back together it will go!
