    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi, before I ruin my exhaust, I'm looking for some confirmation/guidance on my GS1100ED yoshi exhaust and how to remove the can from the mid pipe.

Anybody ever done this and what is there to watch for? Right now I'm assuming that the end cap on the mid pipe slide (with persuasion) out from the can :confused:.

I also assume that these get corroded and needs to be soaked to have any chance of removal. I attached a picture from a later model can. but assume the earlier model as on my GS1100ED is similar.

Do I need a puller to pull from the outlet side?

I just take the three allen head screws out and the aluminum cannister / baffle / packing all come off together showing mid pipe as in your thumb nail.

Take the allen head screw out of the rear collar. That allows the baffle and packing to release out the open end. Wouldn't hurt to put some WD40 or penetrant between the aluminum collar and the steel baffle to free things up. Place the cannister in a verticle position on something forgiving like a rubber mat and start lightly tapping on the baffle (I use a wooden hammer handle) forcing it down towards the open end. You can also try to wiggle the baffle back and forth from the open end of the cannnister to help loosen it. I just repacked mine last week.

Thanks; it is soaking as I type. I was tapping with a wood block but need to let it soak for a while more

What did you pack yours with? SS Steel wool or fiberglass?

I'm using some motorcycle specific fiberglass repacking I had bought awhile ago from a bike shop or maybe dennis kirk. I think it was made by Kerker. I would think the fiberglss is more dense and a little quieter which is what I'm looking for as opposed to longevitiy. I'm also interested to see if stainless doesn't eventually rust, many grades of stainless do rust eventualy. Not a problem for the aluminum cannister but maybe an issue for the baffle. Could be the soot in the exhaust wil coat it and it won't ever become an issue. Let me know how much the stainless packing quiets things down.
