Here is the latest build. 82 katana/zx12.

This bike came to me in baskets with a frame. I have hid all electrics "yosh 1135" style with custom battery box, frame bracing, rear sets and every misc tab smoothed off. new header hanger, powder coated frame and engine. Color matched all the silver bits to match the shocks and added an 80 1100 tail section as per buddies request.

Getting close to being done. I will have more info and pics on my website shortly

Richard in Ontario fit the swingarm with custom bushings and some milling of the swingarm. He also fabbed the stem for fitment and welded up a 520 offset sprocket, steering stops and twin shock mounts. Buddy is local to me here in Vancouver so dropped everything off here once Richard was done with the swingarm and stem fitment.

Having seen some of Richards other work it is not surprising how clean this one looks.
I will be watching to see how this one finishes up.

I never liked the "case saver" mounts on the 82 kats so I cleaned them off and tapped the inside for cleaner look. THe motor was contacting the swingarm pivot as well so I had to machined some new motor mounts to bring it forward.
I just think it looks much cleaner that way.

WHATS THE POWDER COAT FINISH COLOR YOU USED? SEMI GLOSS BLACK? OR SATIN?

Sorry for the caps it's a drafting thing....

project looks real good, the zx motor looks right at home there, funny how similar all the early motors were.

The color is called "black magic"

Hello Katman

Having been through my bike, I now know how much work is involved just to restore to stock.

A couple of questions if you dont mind?

I have hid all electrics "yosh 1135" style

What does this mean?

Is that Yosh pipe original or do you have a source to refab the header?

This bike looks great. I'm interested to see the final ; keep the pics coming. :)

Have a look here http://www.robwilton.com/xgallery.html
and find the yosh 1135 pic. Yosh picked up a few of the last run of the katana final editions and turned them into a modern superbike. I think they sold for in the 25k or 30k range.

the pipe is old but in excellent condition.

ZX12 Suspension

ZX12 Suspension

Rob, that bike looks awesome, first class work all the way. How wide is that rear wheel and will the front wheel fit the newer GSXR forks. What kind of mods had to be done for the Kawasaki Swing? How close are the wheels to that of a GSXR? I am wondering because I can get a good deal on some chrome ZX12 wheels for my 82 GS1100 project.

Thanks
Tee

Thanks Tee,

The tire is a 180 on a 5.5 rim. Richard narrowed the swingarm by how much I don't know and put in some bushings to reduce the pivot diameter. Looks like quite a bit of material came off the swing pivot area.

The owner brought over these digi clocks for me to install. They look pretty good.

bikes getting closer. Cosmetics are in for paint.

What kind of forks are those? look kinda like ZRX1100/1200 but the top triple comes from a different bike (ZX11?)
