Shift "enforcer' knee and shin guards (discontinued)

Per this web site I bought a pair of Shift brand knee and shin guards.

I wore them around the house last night for two hours and so far this morning another three, both under and on top of a pair of pants. I even kicked a tennis ball around for a half an hour playing with the dogs last night and they are very comfortable to wear. The only minor objections I have to them is, the tend to move around 'slightly' when wore over top a pair of jeans and they pull on your calf 'slightly' when worn directly on your leg and bent at 45° angle.

Although they are not CE rated, I personally believe they will provide proper knee protection in a get off or a crash situation. But as always, nothing protects absolutely in all conditions.

As I did, you can still find these on the interwebs if you look around. I found mine on Ebay for $20 delivered.

I had a set very similar to these, sold under a different brand name, and can confirm that they are comfortable. Problem is they don't stay in position if worn on top of your pants. They slide around a lot because the straps are soft elastic and there is no strap above the knee cap. I imagine, unless you hit something straight on, they will squirm out of the way if called on to do their job. My right knee is thrashed from when a left turner got me in 2006, and a set of knee guards would have help me out. I'd like to encourage you, and anyone else buying these knee guards, to wear them under your pants to make sure they stay in place properly.

Ed, I'll agree that it's best to wear them underneath your pants, but that may not be practical if you ride to work and need to wear your work clothing. Because of that scenario, I wore them around the house over my blue jeans when sitting, walking and even while kicking tennis balls around playing with two of my dogs. Other than the right guard sliding down and over about a half an inch they stayed relatively where they should have.

How they will move around when sitting on a bike for long periods of time, or during a 'get off' situation, I have know idea.

***edit*** If you wear these under your pants, it's a simple matter to drop your drawers rather than trying to remove them through the pant leg openings. Easy-peasy and no need to remove your boots.

Ask Basscliff how good that "floppy" top protector with no strap is... He was wearing a pair almost identical when he came off & cracked his kneecap.

I suspect you could also catch the upper part on the handlebars if there isn't a third strap and have them pulled out of position if you were to get thrown over the bars during a crash.

I don't think there is a way to cover every scenario no matter how hard we try.

Well actually, Cliff had a set of Icon's (I think). Much nicer than these. There was a small protection gap between the knee cup, and the shin guard, and that's exactly where he hit. Bad luck.

I think as long as they knee guards are held in place properly, they should be okay for protection. Nothing's perfect though, and going down is rarely pretty.
