Hi,
I was up late Friday night fixing a stupid mistake, a stripped oil drain plug. Doh! I did the quick-fix oversized drain plug because I had planned a ride for Saturday morning. It worked well.
Here's the write-up:
Stripped Oil Drain Plug Repair
I've posted it to my little website. There seems to have been a rash of stripped drain plugs. My problem was I put a new crush washer on the plug, I think it was the wrong size, and I ended up over-tightening it thinking I was crushing the crush washer. Drat and bother.
Anway, all done, working great, but I plan to fix it properly in the future with either a good used oil pan or a TIME-SERT. I'l probably do it when I refresh the top end sometime this winter. I need to replace a weeping base gasket.
Watch those torque specs!
Thank you for your indulgence,

Does it count if the kid does the work? Tried to pull the bike onto the centerstand but of course my chest started yelling at me so I stopped pretty quick. So had Charmayne pull off the brake calipers, hoses, and rear shocks while I pulled off the master cylinder to give all that back to TKent. She's getting pretty strong though I let her use the 1/2" drive breaker bar.
Fortunately after getting home this afternoon, the girlfriend and all three older kids pulled the bike onto the centerstand for me. I'll be so glad when I can heal up.Cowboy Up or Quit. - Run Free Lou and Rest in Peace

helped my friend pull the roll bar off his mx5, and swapped my stocker headlight for a Hella H4 ecode housing and a PIAA GTX bulb. haven't had a chance to test it at night yet.

I removed the Transmission control module out of my wifes 'old' Chrysler 300M trying to fix the 'no bus' message in the speedometer when the CAN-BUS (controller area network-bus) goes down. when the no-bus message rears its ugly head, we have a loss of various functions such as speedo, tachometer, abs light on, air bag light on, no memory seat, a/c goes to high speed and blows cold air, no fuel gauge, no radio, overhead display goes blank, fuel injector drive goes wacky, ect.
it's one of these things... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/?cmd=...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT :d
either fix that or find a used trans for the escort and R&R it... (a broken Overdrive band)
we've had a few vehicles break down lately. I guess that's to be expected when one has 214K and the other has 234K miles on it.
We threw a 2010 Ford Edge at them to fix the issue for now.Last edited by rustybronco; 10-12-2011, 07:58 AM.

Replaced non-working rear brake light switch with one that does work (no idea where the new-old part came from as one of my friends is a custom bike builder with a huge pile-o-parts), replaced leaky petcock with new one which caused me to have to install and re-route a new fuel line as the new petcock ports point towards the rear instead of the front, pulled the carbs and installed a set of 115 main jets (still too rich - will be revisiting those soon), installed new brake pads on rear and now the rear brake drags a bit - will be revisiting that soon, inspected front brake pads and they are fine, bled rear brakes.

My '84 Mazda 323 wagon had over 360K km's on it before we got rid of it just recently and it never let me down. The only time I ever stopped on the side of the road was a flat tyre... gotta be happy with that!1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie

Performed my first ABS welding today on my bike's busted side cover button tabs, per Mr. Chuck Hahn's detailed phone instructions.
One question, how long should I wait for before putting them to the test?
