Disposing of old tires.

I try to recycle as much as possible, anything that can be reused, but realize some items aren't recyclable.
I take my used motorcycle/car tires to Les Schwab and get charged $2 per tire.
What do you do with them?

I'll pay the disposal fee that Iron Pony (or any other store) charges when they change my tires and let them deal with it.

we have an annual tire collection day here.

The local recycle center here allows up to 6 car tires or 10 motorcycle tires per year at no charge.

I seldom exceed that amount.

Here in Indianapolis, it's as easy as it gets.

Our trash gets picked up by robot arms, so they tell us to just put the tires on top of the trash in our big green bins; don't bag them or cut them up, just lay them on top.

I guess they separate them out and the tires go away for recycling. Easy-easy.

Wherever you are, there's a way to properly dispose of old tires. Please don't burn them and make the rest of us breathe that.

Google "tox drop" or "HHW" for your county or city and you'll find it.

I just sell them on Craigslist... I don't really, but you see people trying to sell there crap tires on there. Just because a tire has tread depth doesn't mean the tire is good! I know you all know that, but apparently there are people out there that don't...

We were recycling ours before it was fashionable. A motorcycling family - and also a yachting one. We had a keelboat on a four pile mooring in a bay on Lyttelton harbour. 19in Dunlops made very good springs for the mooring lines.

Locally, now, you pay. Either at the tyre fitting shop or at the dump when dropping them off.

I leave mine by the road... They seem to "roll" away on their own. I had this guy come in with a ratty early 90's Kat and say thanks for the tires. He was running my old tread to the cords!!! Whatever, I don't pay to dispose and the guy got 1000 miles on some nicer tires than whatever he was running before (makes me wonder what he was running if my used tires are better).

I either take them to the local landfill and pay a fee based on the weight- type, or I cut them into smaller pieces put them inside a bag and slip them into the bi/tri-weekly garbage pickup.
