So my boyfriend bought a 1988 GS450LJ, pretty much as a project for me and for him to eventually learn how to ride (It's a weird backwards relationship, I know) and I stumbled across this site. Already found some really helpful information reading around these posts, so I just wanted to introduce myself and thank you all for your help!

+1 on a MSF course!
They will go over the basics and your 450 will be right on par for weight and handling to a class bike. The 450 is a great little machine, great on gas and plenty of getup and go. Look for Bass Cliffs site, run through all the maintenance items and she will be ready to roll.
Good luck and ride safe!

By all means, post pics of your bike if you can. We like pictures and we're a pretty friendly bunch here so don't be afraid to ask questions.

Beauty is in the eye of , well YOU AND ME lol..
Its still a 450 Suzuki, one of the BEST bikes going. the fact that someone spray bombed it means nothing to me.
The rest of the story tells the truth.
I'm finding it harder and harder to find bikes of this vintage that are not molested beyond hope in one way or another.
If your bike runs then that is fantastic. Learn to keep up on maintenance, adjustments and repairs and the bike will reward you with many more years of friendship!!

Haha, yeah the spraypaint job is....horrific. Especially up close, the picture actually does it some justice lol. It runs strong though, its a blast to ride. I think eventually I want to bob it out.... maybe? Idk. For now, I'm happy.
