    New GS Owner/Rider

Hey all, just thought I would introduce myself. Bought my first bike a 82 GS 1100G this fall. Love it so far and having a great time riding it! It needs lots of work and im no mechanic but looking forward to learning.

Off the bat I replaced (with help) the tach cable, clutch cable and plates (it was dragging like mad) and changed the oil/filter. Next on the list will be new tires and some work on the brakes as those seem important (I guess). It seems to run pretty hot, and even after new plates it shifts from 1st-2nd stubbornly.

I'm sure you will see me posting regularly in the coming weeks/months! I think there is a pic attached although im new so apologies if it doesnt work.

    Welcome. That's a fine looking G.
Sounds like you may have some clutch adjustment issues.

Thanks Wyly, but I'm a bit of a one trick pony as my only GSs have been 2 1150s, and one 1100 that received minimal wrenching on.....

Thanks! And ya its possible the clutch needs more work, although ive been practice 'pre-loading' my shifting which seems to help, and I understand with shifting from 1st to 2nd that it is often a bit more rough with having to jump over neutral. We will see!

Nice looking 1100G, welcome aboard. It amazes me how many GS bikes there are in the Island

                  Welcome to Gsr.

                  really nice g there.
dont think I have seen the blue stripes like that. (Other than on 78s I think)
looks like someone put on lower bars.

there may be more members from bc than any us state.
and maybe more members on the island than many us states.

someone should look into the history, must have been a big suki dealer there back in 70s 80s.

naw. Brakes not that important. Can go a long ways without brakes.

aside from clutch cable and clutch cable adjustment, an other thing thAt can contribute to clutch dragging or hard shifting is if are notches worn in clutch basket slots.

do post more pictures and tell us more of your adventures.

                  first bike, eh....
let me recommend a training class (will let some of the other bc guys say what is available)

Thanks! Ya the paint is custom I believe and yes I wonder about these bikes on the island here. I know that for example there has been a link with the Japanese Delica vans/imports over the last while, it would be interesting to look into the history there for sure!

Do you think in terms of the hard shifting that the basket would contribute to the inconsistent nature of the problem? The most puzzling thing is that many problems that could be causing the issue would id imagine be consistent problems? My bike shifts nicely about 85% of the time and the other 15% seems pretty random, although seems to be when it heats up after a longer ride.

For sure ill be taking some training, ive taken a bit already and will again to prep for the final stage of my license. One nice thing about owning an older bike is im not tempted to see how fast it can go for fear with will rattle apart under me!

Thanks again for the reply, ill be sure to post more pictures as I go!
