    Hello from Milton Keynes

    Hi All

I have just bought what I believe to be a '83 GS550E, the first GS I have owned. I am unsure of it's provenance/heritage so will be asking in the forums for a bit of help I think

Prior to this I had a GSX1400 and originally started the owners club for that bike.

    Thanks

    Welcome Psycloud.

I saw that one for sale, and thought at the time that it looked good and original. Are you planning a full restoration?

      Thanks Steve.

I am unsure what I will do with it at present. It's booked for an MOT next week so will take it from there. I have just started a thread in the Projects forum regarding the identification as I am really struggling with that. Things like spark plugs don't match what the manual suggests for the supposed year of the engine. We ended up using B8ES as the ones shown in the manual were too slim around the thread.

Welcome! What got you away from the 1400? That is a bike a lot of us here wish we could get our grubby little hands on.

RE: GSX1400 - I loved that bike to bits. I had one of the first in the UK and a few companies borrowed it from me to make pattern parts (hoses, exhaust etc). In the first year I did about 4000 miles on it but due to personal circumstances the following couple of years only managed a few 100 miles and it just became un-economical to keep on the road so I sold it before it devalued too much.

I would love to have it back again but for now I will be happy with a mini-project such as the 550 I have just bought. At least you don't need to re-map it every time you fiddle

I understand completely. I've sold vehicles during difficult times and missed them greatly. I'm really glad you've picked up a new project and rescued another GS!

Welcome to the GSR, nice bike to get started on, beautiful colour scheme.

I have a 1981 GS650E that I'm in the middle of a rebuild, looks very similar to the GS550E.

BTW I recognize that place you are from as I follow F1 and I hear that name as the home of Red Bull Racing factory, pretty cool, have you been able to take a tour of their facilities?

Welcome aboard, David. You wont be stuck for information on this site, it's where everyone comes for advice and banter.

I'm starting to think that there are enough UK members to warrant national meet.
