    The end of the road......

The temp. didn't break 90 degrees here for the first time in almost 2 weeks so I headed out to find the end of the road. I did!

There used to be a sign here warning that the road ends but some Einstein stole it. The road runs right off into Kentucky Lake.

oh man, its great isnt it?! I love the 80's around here. im outside of louisville, and it made a huge difference with the heat island effect here. there was actually a cool breeze today. Before it was just hot air blowing by.
We had someone take a junction sign a while back. I missed that turn every time i took that route.

True story, our High School Senior class decided to have our after graduation party there as it is Way off the beaten path. In fact, most had never been there. One guy stepped up saying he knew the way and had been there many times. He is leading a caravan of 50 or so vehicles and yes, he drove right into the lake! The water is shallow there and ten or so of us waded out and pushed him back to dry land. There has been a bit of erosion in the 36 years since then and there is a foot or so drop now at the end of the pavement.

Take KY 121 South to New Concord KY and turn Left on KY 444. Turn Left on Kirby Jennings Trail at Hamlin KY and ride or drive until you see water. Hopefully stop before you feel water!

That spot is actually called Chandler Park named for former Governer and Baseball Commisioner A. B. Happy Chandler. It was supposed to be developed into a state park in the 1950's but because of it's remote location and shallow water making it difficult to launch a boat there the public never warmed up to it. The state eventually abandoned it and the only evidence left that it was a park are a couple of concrete picnic tables.

I discovered one of those myself somewhere around Casar's Creek on Saturday. The folks launching boats didn't seem to take notice of the goofball on a motorcycle riding down almost to the water.

Saturday was an almost perfect riding day. 70's to 80's, and partly cloudy. I only got about 6 hours of riding in.

Man, I'm jealous. I was supposed to go on a 200 mile ride with another group and decided not to go when I got up and saw wet roads. Turned out to be a great day. Besides, I developed some kind of allergic reaction in my right eye which caused it to turn all red and tearie. That would have been a drag had I been on a long ride.
