Ther're out there and they're trying to kill you!

They almost got me this morning.

I was coming to an intersection on my way to work this morning. There was a dark coloured truck to my right in the right hand turn lane and a silver Focus on my right stopped at the intersection-getting ready for their chance to cross the road after traffic cleared. I guess I didn't count as traffic.

I moved as far to the left of the lane as I could while getting on the binders but all I could think of at the moment was how best to get off, avoiding the windshield, and how to land after I went over the hood. Thankfully they saw me at the last moment, hit the brakes which allowed me to 'safely' pass less than a foot in front of the bumper.

Wear your gear ladies and gentlemen. They are trying to get you.

I Can't Stand Waiting Traffic at Intersections

I know the feeling on this one. I get a "pucker factor" on hwy 1, two-lane/dual carriageway with cross-traffic sitting behind a STOP sign (on both sides of the hwy). If no traffic is in the fast lane, I merge over and slow down anticipating a bonehead move on the count of the driver.

It's terrible that I don't give the benefit of the doubt to the driver but this is my life we're talking about...so all bets are off.

    Stay safe my fellow GSer.

Good job on the near miss.
All the campaigns and bumper stickers in the world can't avoid the fact that AFA cagers are concerned, we don't really exist in their tiny little world they exist in.

To me, it was shear luck. With around a second to react, the fact they weren't making a left hand turn, didn't give me enough time to move into the opposing lane. That was quite a fast event to prepare for.

I and the bike don't react that quickly as we're both old.

It has been 20 years since my last "left hand turner" accident. I'm still gun shy at intersections whether traffic lighted or not. I got a hand and foot full of brake at the ready.

If you leave any possible way for the stupid cagers to get you, no matter how inconceivable, they will use it. There are no friendlies out there, assume nothing and trust no one.

Things are getting even crazier where I live. I'm used to people doing dumb stuff while I'm riding my motorcycle, but now they do it when I'm driving around in my car. I got rear ended in July in my car which was totaled, the guy said he was reading a map, I think he was texting. Very aggressive drivers, the fact is at least in my
car they do see you, but they'll challenge you for the right of way at the expense of an accident. They just don't care.
I only ride the bikes now when I'm feeling sharp witted and when traffic is down.

Check this out. I don't think I would've come upon this situation as fast as he did. He must've been a newbie.

Thank's Dave. I'm grateful just to be able to ride another day.

Today is one of those day's to be grateful for. The air is crisp and the tune's mother nature plays is nothing short of wonderful.

It also helps when you can get in a few 9+ grand blasts while enjoying the morning.

                      Hey Steve,

I'm sorry to hear about the accident and glad you're ok. That video is nuts! Looking at one of the still pictures, it looks like the rider is not wearing a helmet. Very fortunate he didn't sustain more serious injuries.

My current status is awaiting reporting instructions to a new job in Florida; first Jacksonville then Panama City. I won't be taking my GS there but I'll be just as careful in the car...like you said, things are getting crazier out there.

Boy that weather sounds sweet. Too hot and muggy down here lately. Cant wait til November. Hopefully by then I will have a bike running again. This current one is wearing me out.

It was... but now it's trying to rain on my parade. Hopefully I be able to dodge the rain on my trip home from work. If not, the rain coat is in the right hand compartment.

I watched the video three times, and as far as I can see, the car was already pulling out before the bike came into view. It appears the rider had time and distance to spare for avoidance, but took no action.

That is what I saw also, earl. By 7 seconds into the video, the car was in the street and into its right hand turn. The bike does not strike until 11 seconds. He had at least 5 seconds to use his head for something other than a landing cushion.
