On August 9th Bob Putney was killed while riding his motorcycle. I don't know Bob other than to read some of his posts about his 79' 1000S and more recently we were in the middle of a transaction for some 'S' parts. His son notified me of his passing and permitted me to post it to the site so we could all pay our respects to a fellow member. This is indeed a sad day, another member is gone and another family is grieving.

Wow, that is terrible news. Bob contacted me a week ago about my ES, he was going to come out to CO and trailer the bike back, but found another bike closer to him. Sounded like a great guy. My prayers go out to his family.Comment

Yeah, that really sucks. He lived about 30m away from me. I didin't know him either which makes me even more sad that I haven't gotten around to meeting the other fine GS folks in my area. I will be praying for his family.1982 GS550M Rebuilt Winter '12 - 550 to 673cc engine conversion.

Robert Bruce Putney of Wildwood Missouri passed away suddenly on August 11, 2013 in Warren County, Missouri. He had reached the age of 57 years.
He was born on January 3, 1956 in Ainsworth, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Tammie Renee Perot on July 4, 1989.
Robert was the VP of Human Resources for the Gund Company in Kirkwood, Missouri. Mr. Putney loved everything about motorcycles. He enjoyed riding whenever he got the chance.
A visitation will be held on Thursday August 15, 2013 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm at the Martin Funeral Home in Marthasville, Missouri. Robert will be laid to rest in Houston, Texas.

I'm greatly saddened by this news. Bob seemed to be a really nice guy. We conversed a number of times about 1000S's, which were his passion. He is one of the few GS'ers I've met here that love the bikes AND proved it with his wallet.
