    Senior Citizen Discount

Posted/shared by a friend on FB. I’m 52 so starting to think about some of these things as I get on. I have not personally verified any of these as fact. But also have no reason to doubt.

………..at Wendy's recently, I heard him ask for his senior discount. The girl at the register apologized and charged him less. When I asked the man what the discount was, he told me that seniors over age 55 ...get 10% off everything on the menu, every day. (But you need to ASK for your discount.)

Being of 'that' age myself, I figured I might as well ask for the discount too.
this incident prompted me to do some research, and I came across a list of restaurants, supermarkets, department stores, travel deals and other types of offers giving various discounts with different age requirements. I was actually surprised to see how many there are and howsome of them start at the young age of 50 .
This list may not only be useful for you, but for your friends and family too.

Dunkin Donuts gives free coffee to people over 55 .
If you're paying for a cup every day, you might want to start getting it for FREE.

YOU must ASK for your discount !

Thanks. I would say most of us on the site would be able to take advantage of that list. I kind of vaguely knew of such things but It never occurred to me to ask. Some of those numbers on the lodging look too good to be true. Those rates are pretty fluid anyway depending upon season, event, how booked they are, etc. So I guess my question would be 40% off what? The different rates I see when searching online are govt/military and AARP. and I don't remember any being that much less.

The restaurant discount percentages are less but you know what the 'normal' prices they apply to are. They are posted on a menu..

Local barber shop sign: men's haircut, $35. Seniors (65), $20. That's a BIG difference. I think I've taken that advantage twice. The first time, I corroborated before the haircut, the second time not. And I almost felt guilty about producing a twenty when they asked for $35. "Senior?" they asked. "Need to see my ID?"

I try to ESP them that that just leaves more for their tip...

Most of the time I don't bother. Don't know why.
A lot of places can make it automatic if you're in the system. I always get the Great Clips discount, because it's in their system, when I check in.
Now do the military discounts. I get 10% of at Lowe's, just need to scan my Lowe's card.

        Thanks for the list....

I get teed off when they automatically give me the discount without asking. The way I see it most boomers/proto genX types are financially better off than the younger folks are these days and besides, I only look old from the neck up!

I never ask and in Canada we don't get them very often I don't think. Maybe I've been giving up some discounts over the last 7 years but I don't think so.

Burger King here, when order, ask for "Senior Coffee" along with other item and a small (10oz?) coffee is free, and refills, if want to wait in line again. (ANd is a big table of greyhairs sitting around for hour and a half.) (and the best thing about the coffee is that its free.)
On my recent travels, at other BKs in other states I order Senior Coffee and is something like 1.69 with a 1.10 credit, so 59cents.

At motels on recent trip, (Red Roof, no extra charge for small dog) I ask for price, wait to hear, and then ask any discount for say AARP and often they give 12 or 15 dollar discount. SOmetimes they want to see the card and enter in the number, usally dont.

At things like museams or parks, when look at admission prices, usally have adult at top of list, then children.... but keep looking down the list, there might be a category for active military or veteran or senior.

I nearly always ask, but kind'f like a joke. I say, Don't forget my discount, they ask what kind of discount?, I don't care whatever you got, senior, employee, "Veterinarian" doesn't matter, I'll take anything. Many ask if I work for them? no but doesn't say I got to work for "you", just says employee and I am, I'm a greeter at Walmart. Also try to get double discount at restaurants, me and my wife are both seniors on fixed income, we need one for each of us. If we get a discount, that's great, if we don't a little chuckle is good for all involved.

A couple of years ago I was in the liquor store and the girl in front of me was getting carded. When it was my turn feeling like a smart a$$ I asked the salesgirl why she didn't ask me for my I.D. .... Her reply was " I'm sorry sir but we don't have any senior's specials this week " ..... How to put smart a$$es in their place ......

The 30% Big Lots senior discount listed in the above list intrigued me....but after looking into it, it appears to have been discontinued.

Frosty, if there is some other discount offered at BigLots, or if they’ve eliminated any senior discount, let me know and I’ll revise or delete the line.

You can delete Kroger's from you list. No discounts in 2024.

Forget where I was but it was when I just turned thirty and high school age girl working as cashier ask me if wanted seniors discount....sure why not...lol

Which reminds me of another age thing, about a year earlier while visiting friend who lived near university campus.
his kids were riding their bikes and asked me if I could still ride a wheelie on a bike, so I got on my friends mountain bike and rode a few short wheelies.

I here some college girl in parking lot yell at her friends
"""" hey you guys, come check out this old man popping wheelies"""
                            I was 29....lol
My dad says he never ask for senior discount, but my mom makes him...lol
