    Aluminum engine corrosion removal.

Does not pertain to motorcycles so I'll ask here.

What's your favorite aluminum corrosion removal chemical?

I've used prep and etch followed scotch brite pads in the past and it worked well. It did take a bit of manual labour. I'll probably paint the engine block afterwards unless the results are spectacular.

Chrysler 3.5L aluminum everything, valve covers to pan.

Kinda radical but do a 25/75 mix of muriatic acid and water when i descale bike heads and cases in prep for painting. Try it in a non apparent spot first of course. It will fizz a bit. i usually let it set 30 seconds or so then rinse off with the hose. Spot treat as needed. Depending on how crusty your parts are may take a little longer soak. Just have to experiment a bit. AND have a fan blowing fumes well away from you. Fumes are caustic as well and can cause real damage if inhaled.

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

Currently a complete long block. She's also varnished internally and a wee bit sludged from too few oil changes.
The good is it's got 94K miles on it. Sad what people do to these things.

        Engine will be completely resealed.

            VERY IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE

Add the acid to the water.......NEVER add water to acid.

Very messy, but soda blasting works well. Just keep the soda out of your grass, or it will die. Don't ask how I know...

Think I'm going to go with some sort of acid in addition to mechanical means to remove the corrosion.

I did not doubt that, Dale, but there are hundreds of people who come to GSR for information and who may follow whatever advice they see posted here, so I thought the warning was needed for their safety..

                    Stay well, my friend.!!
