Sent pics to a buddy of mine down in Texas..Richard Creed. Use to be inn the editorial staff and a photographer for Motor Cyclist Magazine way back in the day. He was stunned and told me I should keep it and show it off. He is retired now and I take his critcisms as gospel. Dude knows so much more and done so much more than probably 75 % of the members here.

The fuel pump on a Wing is a very low-pressure item. It only needs to lift the fuel from the tank to the carbs, which are just a little bit higher in elevation. Actual fuel pressure getting to the float valves is proably about the same as what a GS will see with its gravity-fed system.
If I remember correctly, you don't have to remove a whole lot to get the carbs out. I think the first thing that I would do is check the float valves to make sure they are working, put the carbs back in and try again.

Yes they are looking sweet now Jeepster. Got the carbs off and the first bowl I opened was full of gunk so that was the tell all as far as they were concerned. Got them all torn down and in the dip. Got all the jets scrubbed shiney with steel wool and poked all the holes, flushed them with lots of air and carb spray so the jetting is all cleaned and ready to go back in.
And got to digging in the box of extra stuff he handed me and what do you think I found???? Believe it or not, there was a complete master kit for the carbs, petcock, and air cut off valve along with a carb rebuilding DVD tutorial.
And theres an adapter that allows you to use a spin on cartridge for the oil instead of having to remove the cover all the time. This for sure will be added for my convienences.

Steve..talked to my buddy down in Killeen Texas thats been doing UJMs for nearly 35 years and he said that the cost of the extra goodies was like buying the parts and getting the bike for free. Theres probably about 19 spark plugs and a few what look like new plug boxes in the extras box too
I did find 2 missing parts so far..the rubber strap that goes across the battery to hold it in and the spare fuse holder that goes on the rubber strap. I have been looking at a lot of fiches to find out what everything is.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Nice bike, Chuck. I have a '77 and it's really fun to ride. You need to turn the petcock to the off position every time you turn it off. The carbs on the first gen bikes are very touchy and never did work that well even when brand new. Lots of people put on a set from a '78-'79. They're better carbs. The originals are a pain to rebuild, but not impossible. Replace the timing belts. They're cheap. Change the plugs, points, set the valves and timing, replace fluids and it will probably fire right up. That exhaust system is stock, and worth twice as much as you paid for the bike..believe me.
