Cavalcade LXE
Are the Cavalcades a good reliable cruiser??? Would a 1987 with 30,000 miles in really nice shape be recommended or would it be wise to look at something else??? Just looking for different opinions or horror stories . Thanks.1981 GS 1000GLX.

I had an LX and sold it. I kind of wish i had kept it. There were issues with a plug falling out of the secondary drive reservoir allowing fluid to escape making a rear wheel lockup possible. There was also an issue with the early driveshafts which were upgraded in later models. You can read about all this at the Cavalcade site. If you are committed to the bike and take care of these issues which are not real expensive, it should be a great cruiser. Parts are not exactly common but can be found. When it came out, although not a commercial success, it was the most feature-packed of the Japanese "full-Dressers." Strong durable engine like a gold wing, good for a couple hundred thousand mies.1983 GS 1100 Guided Laser

I find working on my motorcycle mildly therapeutic when I'm not cursing.

I was always fascinated by them, but never had one.
Back in 2000, when I was looking at getting back into motorcycling after a few child-raising years, the Cavalcade was on my short list. Could not find one in the time frame I had set for myself, ended up with a Kaw Voyager 1300. Probably should have waited for the Cavalcade, but was thrilled with the Voyager.

I have no experience with the Cavalcade but I think if I were looking to buy an older tourer like that I'd look for a Gold Wing because of the huge market and availability of parts, service and advice. The Cavalcade was only around for about three years or so in the eighties and then it disappeared. The Gold Wing is still with us.
