One needs to have a bit of piping between the compressor and the water separator (filter?) else it will not be very effective at removing the moisture in the compressed air. If someone were to place that filter next to the compressor, more than likely the filter at the gun would become overloaded in a very short order and you would end up with contaminants in the paint.

Great input guys..Things I wouldnt have thought of. I did know about the drier and I like the attachment right at the gun for extra security..awesome idea if you ask me.
Now to switch gears a tad. I was looking at the POR 15 on Amazon and its like 28 bucks a pint with free shipping. I have heard lots in other threads about it coming with some sort of cleaner prep, but the product info on Amazon is just showing the pint can of the sealer and nothing else.
Question is this. Since i am gonna be doing the Prep and Etch phosphoric acid derusting, is this sufficient to just allow me to rinse the tank after soaking, be sure its really dry inside, and then just pour in the sealer as is?? Any input from the POR 15 users on whats the best prep to liner install route?MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Noone on advice on the POR 15 tank prepping? Just do the Prep and Etch phosphoric acid and go right to doing the coating? Need to know so I know what all I gotta order here. The Prep and Etch is all you need chuck. Por-15 includes some almost identical stuff in their tank sealing kit.Ed

Half pint is plenty chuck. You will pour out at least 1/3 of it in the end.
Rotate tank every which way to sunday, focusing on getting the hump over the frame backbone. Dump out the excess though the petcock hole then put the plug back in. There will still be a good bit of sealer flowing inside the tank so keep it moving until it kicks off. You can get a full second coat on the inside of the tank after you pour out the excess. The stuff really flows.Ed

If anyone would comment in more detail on the safety equipment--I seem to have developed a hyper-sensitivity to the paint fumes the last few years. I always use a respirator with quality filters (I buy them from the paint dealer). Even so, yesterday I felt toxic for an hour or so after painting--clear coats seem to be the worst. I have been spraying with short sleeves and am wondering if I am absorbing urethane through my skin. I love to paint but I know these chemicals can ruin your kidneys and bladder (cancer) so I want to be protected.sigpic

Most of your masks only remove 95% of the organic vapors. You could try a 100% mask, but if you are showing any sensitivity to the compounds in paint, I would suggest a Tyvek suit and a full face supplied air breathing system. If you have a source of fresh air, you could always plumb that into a mask- sort of a D.I.Y. system if you will.
I would suggest as a minimum, a good amount of air flow directing the fumes away from you in the booth, a full suit (cheap @ $10), 100% mask and googles.
