    top end tear-down help

I am taking the top end of my GS850 apart to do a ring job. I have everything apart to the point where the head should lift off but it doesn't. I made sure all the bolts are out (including the small one at the front that I almost missed). Now head and cylinders block lifts together when I pull up.

    Any advice?

    Thanks
    Brian

Did you get the two little ones on the sides?

If you did, then just lever carefully around the edges to separate the two pieces.

      Steve,

Thanks for the reply...I will try that.

Besides the 12 big nuts there were 2 small bolts on the outsides and another small one at the front in the middle.

I will go at it again tomorrow.

A few careful whacks with a rubber mallet helps too. Just be careful where you hit it.

          Cooling fins break off easy.

Get a thin 1 to 1-1/2 inch "semi sharpened" putty knife, insert it horizontally into the middle of the head gasket and tap it with a hammer; being cautious around the studs. go slowly, there's no need to muck things up. repeat at different points along the gasket. when prying, place the bar only where the fins are reinforced.

            she'll loosen...
