GS850D runs great on dry days..

but just a little rain and it runs for 2(or less it just depends)miles and stalls out and dies. I can wait 2 minutes kick start her up and runs strong but boggs bad and dies again. What could be the problem?
    Thanks in advance...

I'd invest in new plug caps-maybe $5 each- and a can of silicone spray to saturate the plug wires. This will also force you to check connections from spark plugs to ignition coils.

        Hi,

        The '79 is a GS850GN. The '83 is a GS850GD.

You'll need to take off the tank, seat, and side covers. Check and clean all the electrical connections and grounds, replacing or repairing as necessary. You can use some dielectric grease on the connectors for protection as well as shrink tubing. See the electrical documentation on my little website for more suggestions. Yes, new plug caps are a great idea.

        Thank you for your indulgence,

        BassCliff

          79 GS850G...

Fill a spray bottle with water, fire up the bike and mist water on the plug wires as she's running.

True enough, but did you catch this?

'79s were the only ones with kick starters.

I would say that narrows it down to electrical problems as mentioned earlier.

Well, what happened when you misted the plug wires with water as it was running?

Go to any auto store and get some 100% silicone spray and drench the entire wire in it and let it soak in,,do this 3 or 4 times. Moisture is getting in thru the micro cracks in the deteriorating rubber. The silicone will fill them in and make them water proof again. Had a old Honda that started doing that..its a 3 dollar fix.

It could be that water is getting into your points, they don't work very well wet, and it doesn't take much. There is supposed to be a paper gasket down there to keep everything dry, have a look.

                              Thanks guys,
When I get a few moments I'll start with the spark plug caps & wires. Then work from the rest of the suggestions.
