    Removing valve guide oil seals

    How do I get the valve guide oils seals off? I've made up a forked tool to remove them but now matter how hard I pull on these blasted things they won't come off the valve guides. What's the trick? Also I see that there is a special tool for installing them, what else can I use or make? Oh yea 1980 GS1000G Thanks, Bill

    Squeeze them out of round with needle nose pliers then pull while rocking them side to side. You may have to squeeze them a second time 90° from where you originally deformed them and repeat the wiggling while pulling upwards.

      I did mine on my 1000G this past fall and they all came off fairly easily. It's ok to squish them with pliers to get them off, they're garbage anyways. Once you're able to twist them around a bit on the valve they should come off just fine.

        Like the guys said - works 99% of the time. Last resort is to hit them with a blowtorch and burn the rubber.

        Twist them and rock them side to side only gently so as to avoid risking breaking the valve guide.

          Its just a rib that snaps into a groove in the valve guide. You rubber is hard as a brick. Just grab them and yank them off. To reinstall the new ones, a thin smear of grease around the inner rib and push them onto the valve guide with your finger.

          There really isnt any magic involved.

          Yeah yeah on all that special tool stuff..Ive not found anything other than a pair of plier necessary to remove them

              Clean the tops of the valve guides good to ensure no tiny fragment of the old rubber is left behind or they will leak again.
