    head question

bout to start on he head part of m rebuild...my spare engine had alot of 1.70 to 1.80 shims...i didnt check the clearence though.

this is the original motor for my bike, it has 32k? miles on it

my current engine which runs, has from 1.5 to 1.65 shims ..

do the thicker shims mean the motor is more worn out?

As an engine wears and the valves sink into the combustion chamber, thinner shims are needed to compensate not thicker. Could be the 1.70 - 1.80 engine never had it's valves adjusted before. Wouldn't surprise me. Also, I've seen super low mileage engines before with 1.60 shims from new. Best to take the valves out and judge wear that way, not by what shims are installed.

The service manual has many pages on what need to be checked and measured during a head rebuild.
