GS1000E upper engine case details needed

    GS1000E upper engine case details needed

    If anyone has a picture of the upper engine case left side under the chain sprocket, it would be greatly appreciated as I'm not certain how many broken bolts I'm dealing with. Is it one, or two bolts snapped off in the case.







    And also one of the top rear as well.




    I'm not certain if that white sealer is supposed to be there or not.

          Ed, do you happen to have a picture of the upper case half?

          By the way, you confirmed my suspicions on the one boss in your photo. The broken off piece on my lower case was half cut away as yours is, although mine was a little worse for wear than yours.

              Thanks for looking Ed. Chuck said two tabs that hold the stator wires are broken off as well.

                This is the retainer that goes over the tranny seal. Top bolt is broke off in yours.



                This is the hole above the tranny retainer and its just a "dead hole" molded in there..stays blank..Just above the front wire boss thing and above the sprocket cover bolt hole...




                These are your broken off bosses that the wiring run thru. They make a tunnel when the cover is on and retain the wires from falling into the chain. However you can make the wires stay up is good enough..

                  You got lucky my friend!!! I just degreased all that under the skunks cover and put on new chain and sprockets about 50 miles ago...good timing to take good clean pics!!!!!!

                    And note how the Neutral switch wire is seated behind the upper tab on the retainers safety tabs.

                      Can you drop back a ways and show more area where that sealer is?? Cant seem to place the location in my mind. May be just a drop that got splashed there at some point of the two halves being joined????

                      But it does look kinda wierd right on top of that circular formation.

                        I can deal with the broken off tabs by attaching a metal strip to the exsting rib, but it looks like I have another broken boss to deal with.

                        I take a look at my 850 and Stan's GK tomorrow to see if either of those have sealer in that area. I don't ever recall seeing it there before. Probably just a spot of sealer that had gone awry.

                          Well, we did know it threw a chain at some point. But it sure must have whipped thru there hard!!!
