    1000 top end on 850????

Anyone know for certain if the 1000cc barrels and pistons ate a bolt on to the 850 engine?

Not sure if the barrels will clear the case without grinding but, the 750/850 use 16mm piston pins and the 1000/1100 use 18mm pins. You will either have to find an old 920 kit (pistons/pins) or
have J & E or Wiseco make custom pistons that use the 16mm pins. (Both will do this for no extra charge if you purchase their kits) The 1000/1100 head will only work if you bore the cylinders at
least to the 1000 (70mm) bore or notch the top of the cylinders for valve clearance.

      http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/mod...850gl%2081.htm (56.4mm stroke)

1.0MM O/S 850 pistons should take care of the bore diameter issue.

Even if they fitted, without the 1000 crank you'd only get a very low compression 850-ish. It might be in the ballpark for turbocharging, though (just a wild speculation). I would think the dearth of super/turboed 850s tells us something - there are much better options.
