    Timing chain adjuster

Going to gramps tomorrow (where my 82' GS650E is) and he says while the carbs are off we should probably re-seal the gasket on the timing chain adjuster. Does this part need anything special as far service goes? Not reading or seeing it mentioned very much. As far as I know it's fine but then the bike was only started for several seconds and only one time. Thanks all

Just make sure you adjust it properly when you put it back on, bad things can happen if you don't do it right.

And don't turn the engine while it's out.

There is a write up by bwinger in basscliff's website that tells you which parts to buy and how to rebuild/seal it. I would do that just to make certain that it won't seep/leak in the future.
