cylinder head washers

    cylinder head washers

    the parts book lists 09160-10039 x 8 copper washers for the inner 8 head bolts, and 09168-120017 x 4 for the end ones, which are not copper, anyone shed some light as to why and whats wrong with using copper all the way, or steel please?

    Nothing wrong with using steel all the way if you wish. Just use reasonably thick washers - and lubed. The four outers have oil under them standard but I think you've got frame hangers somewhere there ? Just ensure that whatever's there goes down onto a clean surface.

      Copper is soft and will deform to seal the outer four where the oil is running just like a sump plug washer. The inners are dry and don't need the copper.

        i ended up using copper on the outside, that just has nuts on them and two stainless on the others where the hangers are used., stacked to be the same thickness as the factory washers. the hangers are hex steel without a round flange at the bottom Greg, was worried about then catching so maybe if they do on a washer and the other is biting into the head then there will be some movement between the two.

          Put two or three heat cycles through it and retorque, Should be OK. I'd love to see it but chances of your riding it down here are slim.
