    Is my gs550 motor toast?

Advice please. I was cleaning the motor of my project 550 this evening and I noticed the engine case immediately in front of the engine sprocket was gaping. No evidence of oil leaks great or small, no evidence of any impact of anything on anything. Immediately under the gaping case joint is what I believe is a drain hole from the starter motor well. Is it a dry void in the crankcase?D203F915-857B-4BDA-B55B-FAC161220FE8.jpg

What's all that silly puddy crap behind the sprocket? Guessing here but it looks like epoxy that someone slathered on after the chain was thrown and tore up the case. Might be time to looking for a new engine.

No, it’s dry crud, but thanks for your deep thought.

I can't see jack on the pictures.

Can you take a better resolution one, upload it to imgur or some other picture hoster and link it here?

If this is a phone, also maybe give the camera a quick wipe with a clean rag before taking pictures.
