1978 GS 1000 split cases now assembling (look over my work please?)

    Good afternoon GS members,

Long time since I posted but I finally got around to putting my gs 1000 motor together after splitting the cases to change the cam chain (i know I didnt have to split them for this).

Anyway can anyone take a look at my pics? I found one littel weird piece that I am not sure where it goes or if it just accidentally found a way into my parts bin lol (little block dowel?).

Also when installing the shifter forks onto the transmission I put the cam stopper in the little shallow circle and align the forks in the empty spaces between gears when putting the top case on right? Another weird thing I noticed is my new seals do not have a little line in them to slip into the notches on the cases? Picture might explain it better.

besides the above I think I am moving along just fine

One more pic of the seal. My new seals do not have this line in them? OEM part from Bikebandit.

That black dowel piece is for the shift indicator.

            Is the seal OEM?

You should put the shift drum is neutral and make sure the transmission dogs are same. The forks slide into the matching slots on the transmission dog sliders.

It that what you call clean? Matting surfaces need to be clean, Back to bare metal perfect and any excess old sealant removed. Even checking those "drips" from the factory for any loose flakes that will cause drama later on.

It wasnt a post to show you how clean it should be, just to highlight there is a gear missing from the transmission shaft.

10-4 got that part I was just commenting on how nice you did on the motor. I struggled to decide whether to balst mine. I decided not too because it needs to match the rest of the bikes patina.

                            Thanks again!
