    Lowering gauges...any tips?

I'm lowering the gauges and headlight today, but damn it if the bolts aren't somehow part of the bracket that holds the gauges to the triple. Any tips on how to remove these? My initial thought was to just put the bracket on the bottom side of the tabs that stick out on the triple and that would give me a good inch lower with no more mods needed. Unfortunately its not working out as planned.

Bump for the tips? maybe? Can anyone help me? I searched and didn't find anything.

No they are just tight. Tap them out with a small dowl or something. The holes have a rubber bushing that grip the bolts.

Yes it will work but you will need to turn your headlight brackets upside down (commonly done) to lower the light. You may also need to do a little grinding (with a dremel) to the plastic on the bottom of the gauges. Hard to explain. You'll see when you try.
I've done exactly what you are planning and it did work. You will have a few issues with brake lines, wiring etc fouling, but if you fiddle a bit it will all fit okay.
I 'cafed' my '76 750 and it looks much better with the gauges 1 1/2 inches lower.

Cool thanks. I ended up having to drill the studs out of the gauge brackets. It does look better though.

Sorry, minor disaster here lately with wild rain and flooding. My workshop went under water yesterday and the pics were the least of my thoughts. I'll see what I can do in the next few days.

I went with the inverted brackets but i had to make up some spacers for the gauge cluster. Mines a 78. Here's the pics. It effectively dropped the gauges down about 1.25 inches and i could have gone a little lower. i did have to extend the shoulder bolts as well since metric shoulder bolts were hard to find and harder still in the extended size. You likely don't have to use shoulder bolts though.

Problem with inverting the headlight brackets is that i'm not sure your stock turn signals will align with the little square cut-outs on the brackets. I've got aftermarket bullets so that wasn't a problem for me. Check your configuration.

...........and they can sometimes foul on the lower triple and / or brake hose(s). You may have to do some jiggling.

I have Harley indicators so that wasn't an issue.
