Finally took the plunge.

The help by the members of this forum is not only in words but even tangible as well! RustyBronco was so kind as to send me some Honda Moly-60 and my rear wheel is back on.
Can you believe it, all the way from the USA! RustyBronco, just a great big thanks again for going to all the trouble, I really appreciate it.
I can see the difference, the stuff is very sticky and the closest moly we get here is a type of a sludge and will be flung all over the place and it runs as well.
I have spent some time routing new cables and cleaning some small items, such as flashers, new wires, new connectors and cleaned bulb sockets.
Will post some pictures on Saturday once the garage is tidied up a bit.

Some progress again. Everything you see has been overhauled, final calipers and M/C powdercoated installed and working. New stainless steel bolts wherever possible, new bearings, new seals, wiring serviced and cleaned, horn and coil relay mod, new cables. Next is the motor, just have to assemble the top end and clean up a bit.

Matchless old mate,just a little thing to watch out for when you come to put your engine back in.As you are replacing all of your bolts,there's two engine mount bolts at the bottom on either side.They go through the engine mounts and through the bottom crankcase casting and into a threaded bizzo that locks it all together.Make sure the bolts are EXACTLY the right length.2mm to long and you'll screw them through your crankcase.After you finish crying,it's a right mongrel to fix.Cheers,Simon.

Thanks for that heads up Simon. In actual fact I got my bike with both those two missing and fitted two stainless steel bolts and it took some time figuring out until I got my head under the engine. So fortunately I have them at the right length already, but will look at fitting a nylock nut this time.

At last something to show. Crash bars, sidecovers, tank and backend still off. Unfortunateley a bit of a setback after starting engine starter clutch seemed to have laid down its tools so that need to be pulled. RustyBronco see that nice logo and light surround! Thanks a million again.




Yearning to ride it, but will first have to fix starter clutch unfortunately.

Well...! A proper chromed one was out of the question as my chromer advertised that he chromes any type of material and after the disaster with the headlight rim and steering stem cover I did not want to challenge his abilities by handing him the instrument cover!
Getting hold of a good condition one would be nice, but around here not much of a chance at all.

You have already helped so much and I am already indebted to you for that, but I would be very happy if you did find one. I am amazed every time how helpfull some people can be even helping someone on the other side of the world!

Finally a sitrep on the progress. Thanks to a very helpfull GSR member I now have original rear flashers and sidecovers fitted.
If anyone has a good clear picture of a 1980 GS1000G in Marble Lemans Blue, so that I can see the pinstriping etc. Final phase will be the painting sometime in 2009!
