Sorry I should have spent more time looking.

Possibly from reproduction decals. http://www.reproductiondecals.com/de...tent.html~main if they don't show them, e-mail and ask if they have them.

go to my albums and look at my red 78..if you like that deep red i can send you the paint code from the can in my garage......Its supposed to be a flame red. My painter had to special order it based on a paint code he found from suzuki....just offering it up.

Finding the paint code is one thing but finding a paint forumula is far more difficult. Please let us know if your painter finds the formula, and if they do, what brand of paint and where did the formula come from. This might help others that have the same issue.

              Hey Chuck,
Keep in mind that the brand and type of paint makes a difference. For example, a PPG basecoat color formula will be different than a Dupont formula. There also may be differences in the type of basecoat. Lots of details to consider.

Ed..I am no painter by any means.. i got the can that my painter got from Dupont to paint my bike. it has all the info on the label. As i said..anyone that looks at the pics and likes that color i can send them a photocopy and they can run with it from there. I personally love the color.. Its a deep red with fine gold metal flake..just enough to see it and its just awesome. they can probably take the label to their painters and come up with a plan if thats what they want to do..

                  Paint codes...

                  Roy-
My 1979 GS850GN I believe is the same red; Candy Imperial Maroon, color code 05L. I found the information at BikeBandit's site looking up OEM parts, see this link:

I had a Shoei FM3 fairing painted to match, but the body shop could not cross-reference the 05L code, they just did their best to match it and it worked out pretty well.

Also, my bike has orange and gold pinstriping that I matched with 3M Scotchcal Striping tape #70203 1/8"x40' Gold MT and #70268 1/8"x40' Bright Orange that I ordered through an auto parts distributor.

                  Hope that helps!

yup thats the name and thats a valid code..28 YEARS AGO!!! It isnt worth snot now. When i called colorite the said Yup its a valid code but we cant mix it.. so this flame red is matched as close as anything i could get. And believe me i am insistant on EXACT when i am buying something and if i wasnt happy it wouldnt be on my bike.. I had ONE tailpiece with the original maroon and i didnt settle till it was perfect to me.. like suzuki told me the paint code for my blue 77 was like 09t or whatever they said... the MODERN PPG paint code is 15653..see your dilema here???

Roy..and anyone else interested..The paint that was scanned from my 78 GS 750E that was then called DEEP BURGUNDY METALLIC is the same as on my newly aquired 78 GS 1000C. The NEW name for this color is FLAME RED. I made copies of the label and the mix codes from the can and Rustybronco has them. Anyone interested can probably PM him and he will send the info along. There are pics of my red 750 in my album here on the forum and there are pics of the 78 1000 in rustybroncos thread " Chuck Hahn 1/2 stinks" Hope this is of use to the masses...Chuck hahn

In lieu of starting another similar thread, I'm wondering if there are any modern colors that are similar to the "Candy Imperial Maroon"?

My front fender is dented and I'm thinking about replacing it, and while I have most of the painted parts off for engine work, doing a respray on them.

I'm not interested in custom-mixed paint, just something similar and available.

Pretty much, or a roll-on job, or I can use my small Harbor Freight spray gun.
