I stood it on end and added plastic sheeting to the back of it. it works pretty good at containing the media.

if only I would quit overheating my 1 HP compressor, the blasting might go a bit faster.

Ah it's too bad you weren't closer Rusty. The neighbor gal is having a garage sale and she has a good size compressor for sale. I was tempted to pick it up myself just to have a back up.

I have a 120v 1 HP craftsman twin and a 220v 2 hp craftsman twin. the 2HP one of my children bashed the start cap in when trying to get it to start. (it had a bad check valve in the tank) I have a upright 60(??) gallon twin that was given to me I need to pick up and I have access to many more, one of which is the one Chuck mentioned. the problem here is, I haven't ran 220 out to the garage yet to run anything larger. so you see, it isn't the the lack of a larger compressor, it's I'm a glutton for punishment!

1HP?!?! Wow...that answers my question of what you are using ) I have a 5HP. From what I know, sandblasting takes ALOT of volume. No wonder it's overheating lol

Yes, if it runs for 30-45 minutes straight the motor will go into thermal shutdown. it's not one of those new oil-less compressors so it can take it... (or at least I hope so)

So far so good! I'm running a fan at the old beast, which allows me to run it for about 1/2 hour then a 15 minute cool down period. works out well and gives me a chance to cool off in this 90+ degree heat.

It's about 60 percent finished.

I'm going to bring the frame in the house tonight to keep it from flash rusting. the way things are going, most likely it will be tomorrow before I get a chance to shoot it. it's hard to keep a wet on wet coat when it's 90+ outside. tomorrow I'll hit it with a wash primer which should give me a day or so before I have to epoxy primer it.

I just bought that sandblaster from HF and was wondering how good it was. I bought the glass media to do the engine and frame. I've never spray painted anything and was going to do it with a rattle can. What type of primer (can) is best?

Everyone will have their own opinion of which is best. if you were to do rattle can primer, I would find someone that will put a two part primer into a spray can and do it that way. barring that, I think Duplicolor makes a nice etching primer and it's easy to find. just remember to scuff it real well before topcoating or paint won't stick very well to it.

Ed, and to think all along I thought it was stupidity?
this is definitely the hard way to do it. using an undersized compressor, a cheep sand blaster plus it's 93 in the shade.

That HF blaster is ok for a one time use, but it's a bit slow. if you were to need a sand blaster for more than a one off project, I would spend the money and buy a real one.

I guess I'm one that says you can do things with minimal outlay of funds. well, if need be that is!

You have done quite a bit already it seems. Once you have that frame primed its going to look so good you will really feel motivated to do the rest properly as well (as you intended anyway). That "greenhouse" must be making it extra hot in there at times! Keep
I can also see that you are going to put some decent stuff on there! Are you going for a high gloss black or a satin black?
We have just had some warm days here as well at 25 C in the middle of the winter. Two weeks ago I was burning the fireplace at night!
