gs1100g seat attachment?
I've searched for this and can't find anyone else with this problem. I bought this bike a little over a year ago. I've been just trying to get it back to stock form and running condition. One issue I'm wanting to fix is the way the seat is attached (or rather NOT attached). The seat is held in place by the front little bar that you slide forward into the channels on the frame, and nothing else. I have looked the seat pan over (assuming a piece was broken off or something) but see no evidence of any other latch or hinge or any mechanism. Are these 1100g's made this way, where you can just pick up the seat by the grab bar? Or am I missing something? It feels odd when I excelerate hard and I feel the seat shift back an inch or so...Tags: None

Yes there shopuld be a keyed latch at the rear of the seat as Dale indicated..I can only assume you have the wrong seat.Post up some pics of the pan at the rear as well as the rear from the outside.. This will help decifer whats goingb on.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

Ok. I'll do that when I get home. The seat really fits clean and looks like the stock "G" model seat (comparing to pics of stock G model bikes). Of course all the pics have the seat ON the bike... also the "back" of the seat is hugged by the rear fender so no way to reach a keyed latch there (if it had one). Anyway I'll post up later.

This is not actually my bike but is identical in every way. My seat looks like this. The G seats are flatter that the L models for sure. I'll have to take pics of the bottom of my seat when I get home to confirm mine is in fact a stock seat.Attached Files

Do you have a "G" or "GL" model?

***edit*** the key lock and the latch are in the tail piece.

Is the key hole on the top surface of the tail piece? I have a hole there where Vetter wires were routed through but the hole is empty now that I removed my Vetter cases and Windjammer. About a 1 inch hole in the top surface on the tail piece. I always thought the hole was drilled by the genius who installed the vetter stuff on here. The wiring they did had me pulling my hair out...Last edited by Guest; 10-05-2011, 02:43 PM.

That's where the key cylinder is. I'll take a picture of it when I get home.
And to think I have thought about looking for a new tailpiece "without a hole drilled in it." Kind of funny I would've had a hell of a time finding one

I agree, the empty hole is where the lock mechanism goes.
