Paint
What are you guys using for paint? I have a sprayer. I am looking to paint my tank and side covers. I think I will go with satin black.Tags: None

I did the full 2 pack treatment on mine... that was an adventure! But worth the trouble I think...1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie

Shopline JC661 clear should compare to Omni's MC161 clear and the reducers and hardeners would as well.
the reason for my using Shopline instead of PPG deltron or global prouducts is, #1 cost and #2 the jobber my wife deals with is a PPG platinum dealer and carries Shopline, plus I really like trying out new things.
as an aside, when I sprayed the DPLF on Flyboy's seat pan, all I could get at the time was one small corner of the booth as there was still a car and a bumper cover in it. Chuck, one of the painters, said it was okay to use it as long as I kept the gun turned down. I told him I planned on shooting around 19~20 psi. he said that should be good! I didn't have the heart to tell him I had to turn UP from the normal 16 psi (10 psi @cap) to shoot it. I'm telling you, after shooting 3~4 oz of clear through it on Saturday as a test, I really like that used LPH400LV4 I bought. it isn't a Sata RP, but it isn't the air hog they are either.

I've used a bunch of different PPG clears, Nason clear, and more recently House of Kolor UC35 clear, and they all spray out great. The 2:1 clears are really easy to use since you don't have to add reducer, plus they tend to stink less.
For me, availability plays a big factor in what product to use. I choose the UC35 clear because HOK allows internet sales, and it's cheaper than PPG. Sprays out pretty thick so you need a different technique than a 2:1 clear but it's all good once you get the hang of it. Guess what I'm driving at is you can't go wrong these days since the materials are all pretty good. Visit the local supply house and see what they recommend.Last edited by Nessism; 12-19-2011, 12:04 PM.Ed

I'm pleased with the 2:1 I bought, it laid out VERY nicely.

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

You should give it a go Chuck, it takes patience and time to get it right, but the reward is worth it. My 450 was my first ever attempt and while it won't compare with others shown on here by Dale, Ed, Larry, and others, I'm really happy with it as a first attempt, and I'm indebted to the guys here for their awesome advice too.1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie

Pete, I think your paint project would have gone quite a bit better if it weren't for those crappy guns you used.
starting out with two strikes against you is not the best way of doing things...

Has anyone tried DupliColor Paint Shop paint? Supposed to be ready to spray with no mixing/reducing. Supposed to be designed to be used on cars and bikes.
