    Early fit & finish

I got a kick out of this. I'm doing another S model, and was just getting ready to remove the old decals when I noticed how different the stripes are from side-side from the factory. BTW this is the nicest stock pair of side covers I've ever seen, too. Beautiful condition. Which one do you think is correct?

I'm going with the left one. The stripe is parallel to the top of the side cover. To my eye, that's the way it should look.

Weird. Had to take a gander at my covers to see if they're uniform --they is. Measured from the top of the blue paint straight down to deepest portion of cover (toward bike's front) and got 3.125" if that's of any interest.

Can't wait 'til you bestow your mad skilz on my S, Larry. You should have had plenty of "practice" by then.

      Left one as well.

Ed's Cooley thread might help... http://thegsresources.com/_forum/sho...9&postcount=28

This is #7 Cooley for me, and they're all a little different. Precision gets a little lost in the production line, I guess. S model side covers all have a dimple right in the middle of them, and 90% of the ones I've done, that dimple was split right down the middle of the black and white stripe (maybe the dimple's there for that very reason), but they all tilt a little to one side or the other more. This one has the black stripe centered over it, which throws the correct height off a bit, too. Hopefully I'll have 7 that have been "standardized" .

The 78~79 1000E's have the same dimple. all the 'S' cover is a fancy painted 1000E cover.

Ahhh..thanks for pointing that out. So much for the decal placement theory. Seems a good reference point, though. It's what I've always used. That, and 3 1/4" on the front width of the blue as Frank mentioned.

I'd say the left one too. The type on the right one looks too tight to the fold... the left one is better spaced.

I can't really tell from the pictures. Send them on up to me and I'll be better able to assess the situation.
If I had to venture a guess I'd say it was a Friday/Monday thing.

Took a bunch of measurements before stripping the paint off my first S. One data point...

                    To measure is to know.

So Larry, does that mean you'll be needing mask or decals?

Hmmmm..come to think of it...I need the tank decals for the S, and I need 2 complete sets for a couple of '79 CBX's. I'll call you before the week is over, Jim. Thanks!
