My DIY paint job
Finally got it all back together. Hats off to all those who paint for a living. That is something I will never do again.

Wait about a year, you will get the bug to do another.

Congrats on a job finished. She looks great. Looks as though you're going to have to back to black that plastic now to get it as shiny as the paint. Curious how you painted the white on the tank, did you spray the white down first over the whole tank then tape?Rob

Very nice. But I can tell your bike is female. It's parked in front of a mirror.Old age and treachery will beat youth and skill every time1983 GS 750

I painted the tank and fairing all blue first. Then masked it off and painted the white over it, sanded it all with 1000 and laid 2 coats of clear. Turned out good for an amateur, but not perfect.

Good job! I did mine myself also after getting lots of excellent advice on here and I'm glad I tried it.
I'll be doing the next one myself... and I'm looking forward to it so much I'm building a new shed that can double as a spray booth1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie

The bike looks nice. You should be very proud. It's tougher then most people think, but the feeling of satisfaction when it's done, is it's own reward.1979 GS1000S,

To be honest, my body shop guy quoted me 850.00 to roll my bike into his shop and pick it up with a new paint job. All the paint, paper, supplies and HVLP gun cost me half that so I probably paid myself 8 bucks an hour to do it myself. I had to do the main fairing twice because I wasn't happy with the first job. Good experience but I wouldn't do it again. Thanks for the compliments. BobLast edited by Guest; 02-07-2013, 04:30 PM.

I have a spray booth at work, but I'm not sure I want to tackle the job quite yet. At least I don't have a fairing to worry about.
We have a local painter that gets great reviews, and he does prep work. I'm going to pay him a visit this month for a quote, and I anticipate it to be in the $800-1000 range depending on whether I go decals (being made up for GSJim in Toronto) or paint the pin stripes.'83 GS650G
